Looking for volunteers

If you are looking for volunteers to support your organisation, Volunteer Centre Hull is here to help; we can help you advertise volunteer opportunities and attract more people to volunteering in Hull, we also train new volunteers through Skills for Volunteers 11 week training course, and we deliver Volunteer Management training which provides practical and useful approaches in volunteer management.

You can contact the Volunteer Centre Monday – Friday 9am – 4.30pm

We can advertise and promote your volunteering opportunities within the Volunteer Centre Drop-In and online at www.do-it.org. This is a free service to voluntary and community sector organisations in Hull.

If you have any questions, need some support and advice or like more information about involving volunteers in your organisation, please contact vc@hull-cvs.co.uk or telephone 01482 324474.

Once you have registered your organisations details, completed an organisation Healthcheck, and registered your volunteer opportunities with us, we can process and upload your volunteer opportunities onto the national volunteering website www.do-it.org on your behalf.    Alternatively, if you would prefer we can teach your organisation how to register and maintain its own volunteer opportunities via Do-It. providing you with the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to access your own Do It account – giving you control of your volunteer opportunities.

If you haven’t already done so, register your organisation with us by completing an organisation details form.

Once you have completed the form you should send it to us by email: vc@hull-cvs.co.uk or by post to Volunteer Centre Hull, Hull CVS, The Strand, 75 Beverley Road, Hull.  HU3 1XL

Please remember to let us know as soon as possible if any of your details change, ie., any changes to your contact details.

To register a volunteer opportunity with us please complete a request for volunteers – new opportunity form.

Once you have completed the form you should send it to us by email: vc@hull-cvs.co.uk or by post to Volunteer Centre Hull, Hull CVS, The Strand, 75 Beverley Road, Hull. HU3 1XL

Please remember to let us know as soon as possible if anything changes, for example – changes to the contact details for the volunteer opportunity. And remember to keep in touch with us during your volunteer recruitment journey.

Your organisation should have the following policies and procedures in place prior to recruiting:

  • Equal Opportunities
  • Health and Safety
  • Volunteer
  • Public / Employers Liability insurance that covers volunteers
  • Safeguarding

If you are unsure whether you have all the required policies please contact us, we can help you check that you have everything in place, and can help you develop and update your policies and procedures.

We can help you check that you have all the required policies and procedures in place through our free organisation Healthcheck.

Once you have registered your organisations details with us we will contact you and offer a free Healthcheck. The Healthcheck is for guidance only and it will help you think about how your organisation is run and ensure that you have all the required policies and procedures in place to support volunteers. Ideally it should be carried out by the Trustees or Management Committee of your organisation, as they are the ones who have a responsibility to ensure that the organisation is running effectively and it achieves its purpose.

Initially, a Healthcheck will take around an hour to complete and will create an action plan for your organisation identifying which areas are working well and what areas may need further support. By the end of the process you will have created an organisation file with your policies and procedure in one place.

Once you have completed the form you should send it to us by email: vc@hull-cvs.co.uk or by post to Volunteer Centre Hull, Hull CVS, The Strand, 75 Beverley Road, Hull. HU3 1XL

We are in the process of putting together a volunteering good practice pack which will bring together all of our best practice factsheets and sample policies in one place. To reserve your copy please contact us at vc@hull-cvs.co.uk or telephone 01482 324474.
