Drug Awareness Training

ReNew are currently commissioned by City Health Care Partnership to provide free drug awareness training to local organisations whose staff or volunteers may find themselves dealing with drug and alcohol issues. Training can be provided at your own premises, or at ReNew’s training room at their centre on Beverley Road.

Training available is as follows:

Drug and Alcohol Treatment in Hull: (approx. 40 minutes to an hour)

  • Drug and Alcohol Treatment options in Hull: what’s new

  • Family Interventions available

Basic Drug Awareness: (approx. 2.5 hours)

  • Why people use drugs
  • Drugs and the law
  • Types of drug use

  • The Local Picture
  • Brief overview of Novel Psychoactive Substances (Legal Highs)

Drug Awareness Level 2: (approx. 3.5 – 4 hours)

  • All the above plus;
  • NPS training (see below)
  • Brief overview of drug treatment

NPS (Novel Psychoactive Substance) Training (approx. 2 hours)

  • Packaging and branding
  • Manufacture and marketing of synthetic compounds
  • Synthetic cannabinoids
  • Risks and harms of NPS, including critical dosage
  • Harm Reduction techniques

Alcohol Awareness training (approx. 2 hours)

  • Facts and Myths
  • Units of alchohol and metabolism
  • Effects on health and on brain function
  • Alcohol and Drugs
  • Tips for cutting down
  • Alcohol Interventions
  • Treatment and support

Drug Treatment Interventions Training (approx. 2 hours)

  • Recovery and recovery capital

  • CBT and Drug Treatment Applications
  • REBT and Drug Treatment applications

Mindfulness Training (approx. 2.5 hours)

  • Exploring the attitudes necessary for Mindfulness
  • Core problems addressed in Mindfulness Therapies
  • Approaches to Meditation
  • Application to Drug and Alcohol Treatment
