Along with Creativity Explored and Hull Libraries, Art-link Hull is pleased to present a fortnight of programming to celebrate women. The events they have planned are all free and span from International Women’s Day to Mothering Sunday (08-21 March).

Artlink are interested in discussing what it means to be a woman – a complex and multifaceted subject (and role).

To give them a jumping off point for discussion, we asked Hull Libraries to help us to curate a special collection of books on various topics that are relevant to womanhood. These books form a framework of categories around which our events are scheduled.

they also invite you to come and join in the workshops, talks, and social events, and hope that you will also enjoy perusing their pop-up library!

“I know that I’m a woman, a woman with inward strength and plenty of courage. We aren’t allowed to have any opinions. People can tell you to keep your mouth shut, but it doesn’t stop you having your own opinion. Even if people are still very young, they shouldn’t be prevented from saying what they think.”

-The Diary of Anne Frank

Along with their events, Artlink are also using photographs and books to tell the story of Women in Hull. You’re invited to share your influences with them. They would like to know:

Which women (famous or familiar) have helped to shape you? How?
What books have been influential in your life? Why?

How to Share:

1. In person- Be sure to write about influential women in the big book at Artlink. Take your photo striking the official 2020 IWD pose, and leave a comment about your favourite book(s).

2. On Social Media- They’d love to see you respond in your posts and stories across social media. Tag @ArtlinkHull to share with us, and feel free to ask your friends to join in the conversation, too!

International Womens Day encourages you to strike the #EachForEqual pose to signify solidarity and motivate others to help make it YOUR day.
