My Sighted Guide Hull Community Team at Guide Dogs for the Blind are offering FREE Family & Friends training .

The training will help family, friends or organisations support individuals with sight loss.

“Here’s my arm, where do you want to go?”

Simple training equips people with sighted guiding skills, that enable them to safely support visually impaired people to go out and do the things that they want to do.

This fun, informal training session is currently delivered in person or over Zoom for approximately 1.5 hours, followed up by a check in with participants to discuss any further issues they may be having. It covers the skills needed to guide safely and some tailored information about living with sight loss.

  • The training has a page on our website found here: Friends and Family training
  • Clients can be referred or self-refer into their service using an online form found here: Friends and family enquiry
  • Clients can also find out about their training and other adult services using the telephone number: 0800 781 1444
  • They also have a range of sighted guiding technique videos on their website that may be useful to people, found here: Sighted guide technique videos

Their service Promise:

“A commitment to deliver a person-focused safe service.”

Through the My Guide service, Guide Dogs will deliver and support high impact sighted guiding partnerships to increase the mobility of visually impaired people. These partnerships reduce social isolation, improve mobility, and increase confidence by helping people to get out and about, and do the things they want to do. They will empower the public, and those who provide services to them, with the skills and confidence to provide assistance in the local community to those who are visually impaired.
