Companion and Volunteer Development

  • To train, supervise and inspire volunteers and companions to provide excellent customer service
  • Engage fully in the companion development programme
  • Support the volunteer coordinator and inclusion of volunteers across enterprise locations
  • Enterprise operations
  • Explore and deliver effective enterprises to contribute to charity income targets
  • To manage all enterprise locations and activities effectively
  • Manage cash, performance, income generation initiatives, maximise gift aid
  • Oversee logistics, stock, collections, deliveries
  • Organise rotas
  • To embed clear systems and processes for retail locations and guidance for companions and volunteers
  • To ensure donations are priced effectively and allocate for sale area to maximise sales and income
  • To keep the retail premises clean and tidy to ensure effective merchandising and compliance to health and safety
  • Plan marketing activities, use social media to promote the retail operations and maximise sales
  • Take part in federation developments around enterprise
  • Support ecommerce and growth
  • Ensure effective waste management
  • To operate the retail operations to ensure compliant to legislation such as, health and safety, sale of goods act 1979 and current trading standards
  • Manage team members


  • To ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, policies and general duty of care and professional boundaries
  • To be flexible and willing to carry out any reasonable duties needed to assist the community and business operations, including holiday/sickness cover and on-call duties, participation in team meetings, attend/deliver 1:1’s and appraisals
  • To understand and work in accordance with the principles of Emmaus International and uphold its values and ethos.
  • Support multiple retail locations and ensure each have leadership, direction, and clarity.
  • To work closely alongside the Enterprise Lead in terms of building opportunities, developing the brand, and growing business.
  • Report to board of trustees on retail and enterprise developments

Terms and Conditions of Employment

  • Salary of £27,000  – £30,000 per annum
  • Support multiple enterprise sites
  • Working Hours – full time hours are 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday
  • Annual Leave – 25 days per annum plus 8 bank holidays
  • Pension – Stakeholder pension

Enterprise Retail Manager Person Specification

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, desirable to have passes in English and Maths education
  • Retail experience
  • Proficient in using Microsoft packages and can demonstrate this
  • Desirable to have evidence of continued professional development, ideally health and safety, equal opportunities, customer service, ICT.
  • Excellent Customer service skills
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour and conflict resolution
  • Strong Sales experience
  • Experience of coaching, team building and motivating others
  • Desirable to have recent charity retail experience and working with volunteers
