Work For Us

Five people sat around desk with laptops collaborating

At Hull CVS, community is at the very heart of everything that we do.

For over 40 years, we’ve seen the power of communities and the importance of community spirit. That’s why we pride ourselves as an employer on making sure that when you work for us, you don’t just join an organisation, you join a community too.

We know that to get the best people, you have to put the best into people. Our focus as an employer isn’t just about what you can currently do, it’s about what you could potentially do.

Barbara's Story

I first joined Hull CVS in February 2010, as a full time temp assistant in their Payroll Department. Two months after starting with the organisation, a permanent role became available which I applied and was successful for.

13 years later, I am still here and loving every moment of what I do.

Based initially on the first floor in a dedicated payroll office, we later moved to the larger second floor office along with all other Hull CVS services; as it was important to the organisation that teams were more interconnected and had the opportunity to build close working relationships with one-another.

It has been fascinating to learn about all the difference services we offer, such as Finance, Healthwatch, Membership Services, Health Captains and to understand how we all work together to support organisations and communities throughout Hull.

Over my 13 years, as the organisation has gone from strength to strength, I have seen three Chief Executive Officers and numerous managers throughout the organisation. I have also had the pleasure of seeing so many colleagues start families and being introduced to their many children. It has been a joy to be part of Hull CVS and to watch how it and my colleagues have evolved over the years.

The current Payroll team has perfected their roles and are absolutely amazing. I am in a supportive environment without any micro-management and with an incredible amount of collective knowledge between us, I feel there is nothing we cannot do or achieve as a team.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we were all homebased and during this time started the transition with clients to a more paperless based system. For me, it was such an achievement to continue to deliver such a high-quality service without the written materials we used previously.

Getting to spend my day with my colleagues and others, the before work and lunch time conversations, knowing I have others I can depend on for help and advice and being able to provide carers with the dedicated support they need is what gets me up in the morning.

This is the longest serving job I have ever kept (I have worked around England and Northern Ireland) and that in itself speaks volumes.

Here’s to the next 10 years!
