DOC – Developing Our Communities was and is the common name for the organisation that delivered lots of community development work on Hull in the 90’s and 00’s. The proper charity and company name is The Community Development Company Ltd. Its a long story, but we own the Community Enterprise Centre (CEC) off Cottingham Road. Given over a decade now of not being able to employ any workers besides our CEC caretaker, and never wanting to be building managers, the remaining trustees have decided that a more appropriate organisation should manage the buildings. Transferring the asset sadly means closing the charity completely. Both of these thing may be achieved by 31/3/19.

The organisation we have approached and which has agreed to manage the asset for the purpose for which it is intended is Coast & Vale Community Action (CaVCA). The chief officer used to work for DOC and understands its values and the organisation has experience in that field but also now has a number of buildings it manages for community benefit.

We have explained the situation to the Council which has an interest because of the s106 agreement that made the buildings available. They have no objection to the transfer. We are seeking permission of the Charity Commission though we foresee no difficulty. The caretaker will be TUPE’d and the situation has been explained to the current tenants who we very much hope will want to stay as a much better building management organisation improves things, we have no doubt.

This notice if to inform anyone in the voluntary and community sector network in Hull of this change and to invite comment and/or questions as you wish.
