Much like learning how to perform first aid, sighted guiding is a useful life skill. It will give you the confidence to know how to act when you meet someone who is blind or partially sighted, and the practical guiding techniques to help them if they need it.

Guide Dogs sighted guide training teaches you how to physically guide a person with sight loss. You partake in a group blindfold, fun exercise, where you learn how to guide and be guided.

What you will learn:

A brief overview of the most common eye conditions
The barriers to independence people face
Emotional consequences of sight loss
Top tips for communication
How to physically guide a person with sight loss

Who should apply:

Anyone who supports or comes into contact with those with sight loss.

Most of our training courses carry a fee. However, Hull CVS offers discounted rates for its Voluntary and Community Social Enterprise (VCSE) members, and for block bookings.
