Hull CVS Apprentice - HBTC’s Apprentice of the Year Awards Finalist

Through our decades long commitment to the betterment of local organisations and communities, last year, Hull CVS refocused our apprenticeship programme to ensure it provided a rounded opportunity for young people in Hull to gain diverse knowledge, skills and experience to optimise their future success.

In addition to offering experience through integration and involvement in the day-to-day running of our services, our aim for this programme was to ensure that any future apprentice would become a core member of our team.

In July 2024, our apprenticeship programme was relaunched, and a number of strong applications were received. At the end of the application process, however, one candidate shone and our newest apprentice - Eleanor Buckle, was welcomed into the organisation.

Throughout the past year, Eleanor has been a tremendous asset to Hull CVS, bringing her passionate and diligent nature to every task and providing a strong contribution to the team.

For her commitment and the difference she has made to our organisation, Hull CVS were proud to nominate her for the HBTC Apprentice of the Year Awards and delighted when she was announced as one of 4 finalists.

As part of her nomination testimonials were provided from across the organisation, to demonstrate the work that Eleanor has undertaken during her time with Hull CVS.

Gareth Fletcher, Development and Communications Lead at Hull CVS, said:

“Eleanor makes it difficult to remember that she is an apprentice as her incredibly mature mindset, matched with her willingness and resilience to take on any task, far exceeds someone of her current experience. The calibre of her work and the speed in which she accomplishes it makes me believe that at some point in the future I will end up learning from her, rather than the other way around.”

Helen Grimwood, Chief Executive Officer at Hull CVS also commented

“Following taking up the mantle of Chief Executive Officer at Hull CVS, one of my core aims has been to improve the opportunities for young people to not only be introduced to our organisation and voluntary sector, but also to become a key part of it.

Through the development of our apprenticeship programme and services such as Working4Good, I am beyond proud to see such incredible young people, like Eleanor, are finding organisations such as ours to be a place for them.

Eleanor has certainly set the mould for future apprentices, and I could not be more appreciative to her for embodying and showcasing the importance and value in including young people.”

And finally, Eleanor Buckle, Hull CVS Apprentice said:

“From my very first day at Hull CVS, I have not only been made to feel like one of the team but very much like a part of the family.

I could not be more grateful to the organisation for nominating me for this award and for providing me with such incredible opportunities as part of my apprenticeship, along with the flexibility to take ownership of, and incorporate myself completely in, my work.

Whilst I still have some time remaining in my apprenticeship, I know I will always look back fondly on my time with Hull CVS and be eternally thankful that they chose me.”
